Disabled persons have problems finding a home because a lot of flats are inaccessible.
They have heavy fire doors, which can be difficult to change due to fire regulations and being communal areas require permission from the leaseholder.
However…
I’m proposing a small change to make to ground floor flats to make them more disabled friendly.

A lot of ground floor flats provide double doors to an outside patio area, but then block them off with either flower beds or railings.

A simple solution to make more flats accessible is to allow wheelchair users and mobility scooters access to flats, to make ground floor flats accessible via the outdoor space so it can be used as private entrance.

Even better putting a private door in ground flats.

This is important because only about 1% of new build in 2020 were bungalows, more of us are living in flats and with an aging population this issue is going to become more common.

Can you help with this?
Most ground floor flats have the closed off patio area. I would like campaign to have private doors on ground floor flats be the norm where possible. Can you help with this or put me in contact with someone who can?
